How to control dosers?

Postby Bud's Reef on Mon Apr 05, 2010 7:07 pm

I'm adding an alkalinity doser to my system that is controlled by an RKII and the best way I can figure to control it is with a multi-timer. I configured the outlet with the three times I want to have the doser turn on, but as a precaution I would like to have it shut off if my PH gets too high. Is there a way to do this?

Set up an alarm to trip at a certain pH, then set your function to turn off if the alarm trips.

Ken

I'm sorry if I am overlooking it but I can't find anything on the controller to set up alarms nor in the manual. Where do I do that?

Thanks,

I think Ken forgot he was in the RK2 section.

You can control dosing pumps in two ways with the RK2. On is the multi-timer and the other is based off the pH controller. However you'll need to use channels 4 or 8 with that as most dosers have poor power factors. With the pH controller you will need to set the on and off points depending on what you're dosing and when you want it to dose. The more predictable option is to use the multi-timer.

All that said, the RKL and RKE are much better at controller this type of device.

I was afraid those were going to be my only options. I started to do it with the multi-timer but with no way to stop it if the pump outlet stays on I didn't want to risk it. I configured outlet 8 as a PH Controller with turn on at 8.25 and off at 8.30 and plugged a digital timer that can run 7 on/off times in 24 hours. Last nights test worked as expected, although I ran the alk into a cup instead of the sump. Tonight I'll run it into the sump.
