Wet PC4... Is Service Cost Effective?

Postby dja1980 » Mon Jul 28, 2014 12:37 pm

While my maintenance account was on vacation, their house-sitter called me to let me know that an alarm was going off on their RKE. When I got to the house, I noticed that 2 of the PC4s were wet. I was able disconnect the wet PC4s and get the system up and going again for a temporary fix.

I really don't feel comfortable plugging the wet PC4s back in... even though they've had a week to dry out. I know this isn't covered under warranty, but I was curious if it would be cost effective to send them in to service. Or, would it be less expensive to purchase 2 new PC4s?

Thanks in advance... Dave

At $90 a piece I would say the repair would be over halve that at the least. Most likely it would be as much or more than a new one. I haven't repaired one but do repair Audio and Video equipment as a profession. It would not be even cost effective for us to repair something that cost less than $100.
thanks,
Danny

If it were me, I would contact Eric at DA and get an estimate first. FWIW they have "Remaned " PC-4s for $60. They're also coming out with the PB-4 & PB-8 soon. Something to thing about.

They said generally, these repairs run $30-$35/ea, but I'll need to send them in to get a firm quote.

I'll report back once I have more information!
